Getting to know Paul Ryan, VP nominee

No doubt, the selection of Paul Ryan as Romney’s VP nominee will please many in the conservative base of the Republican party. If you need any proof of this, head over to a liberal blog or Twitter to watch the liberal pundits freak out. At the same time, notice how some fair weather conservatives are glossing over the facts about Ryan‘s record.

Warning: The following ingredients make for a pitiful tea party.

Paul Ryan on Bailouts and Big Government

  • Voted YES on TARP (2008)
  • Voted YES on $15B bailout for GM and Chrysler (Dec 2008)
  • Voted YES on $192B additional stimulus spending (Jul 2009)
  • Voted YES on  Medicare Part D prescription drug expansion (2003)
  • Voted YES on $70 million for Section 8 Housing vouchers. (Jun 2006)
  • Voted YES on No Child Left Behind further nationalizing education (2001)
  • Voted YES on Head Start Act (2007)
  • Voted YES on making the PATRIOT Act permanent. (Dec 2005)
  • Voted YES on authorizing military force in Iraq (Oct 2002) (Yes, Big Government.)

Back to the crazy liberals…including David Frum (Giuliani’s old campaign advisor).

Some guy from Esquire moans, “(Ryan) the zombie-eyed granny-starver from Wisconsin…”

Conservatives should remember, contrary to all the hype, Ryan’s budget didn’t actually make real cuts. Like everyone else (other than Ron Paul), his plan only cut projected future increases. If Ryan’s budget was fully implemented, it wouldn’t balance the budget until the year 2040!

That being said, now is a good time to get to know Paul Ryan in action. Here he is in a lively back-and-forth debate with Robert Reich and Barney Frank. (part 2)

It was interesting to see Paul Ryan come in second on our poll, asking if Republicans should dump Romney in favor of another candidate at the convention. You are still welcome to vote in the poll–the numbers may surprise you.

What are your thoughts on the pick?
