President Obama’s Fight Club
President Obama’s former press secretary, Robert Gibbs, was recently asked on MSNBC how he viewed the absurd secrecy surrounding the administration’s drone program. A program that, in the words of Lindsey Graham, may have killed 4,700 people–including many civilians. Apparently there wasn’t time for questions about the absurdity of President Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
When I went through the process of becoming press secretary, one of the first things they told me was, you’re not even to acknowledge the drone program…You’re not even to discuss that it exists.
I have not talked to him about this, so I want to be careful, but I think what the president has seen is, our denial of the existence of the program when it’s obviously happening undermines people’s confidence overall in the decisions that their government makes.

FLASHBACK: This is the same Robert Gibbs who spoke of the president’s drone strikes on two American citizens in 2012:
ADAMSON: Do you think the killing of Anwar al-Awlaki’s 16-year-old son is justifiable?
GIBBS: I am not going to get into Anwar al-Awlaki’s son. I know that Anwar al-Awlaki renounced his citizenship.
ADAMSON: His son was still an American citizen. (Also note he was not a member of al Qaeda when he was killed by a drone strike two weeks after his father.)
GIBBS: He did great harm to people in this country and was a regional al Qaeda commander hoping to inflict harm and destruction…
ADAMSON: But it’s an American citizen that is being targeted without due process, without trial. And, he’s underage. He’s a minor.
GIBBS: I would suggest that you should have a far more responsible father if they are truly concerned about the well being of their children. I don’t think becoming an al Qaeda jihadist terrorist is the best way to go about doing your business.
