IRAN: Time to Attack U.S.
Let’s imagine the response if a leading foreign policy journal in Iran published an article with a title like the one published recently by the Council on Foreign Relations. That title was a bit different and I’m guessing you didn’t hear FOX News or MSNBC bat an eye at it? “Still Time to Attack Iran.” Isn’t it ironic? (Glenn Greenwald pointed this out in a tweet today.)
Let’s see what other nuggets of wisdom our steely resolved Matthew Kroenig has to share with his eager public,
Much has changed in the two years since I wrote “Time to Attack Iran,” but one basic fact hasn’t: diplomacy remains unlikely to neutralize the threat from Iran’s nuclear program. A truly comprehensive diplomatic settlement between Iran and the West is still the best possible outcome, but there is little reason to believe that one can be achieved. And that means the United States may still have to choose between bombing Iran and allowing it to acquire a nuclear bomb. That would be an awful dilemma. But a limited bombing campaign on Iran’s nuclear facilities would certainly be preferable to any attempt to contain a nuclear-armed Iran…
Just ponder some of those words. Let them roll over your tongue, “Bombing campaign…certainly…preferable…” I don’t know about you, but I can’t think of any possible negative consequences to a little bombing campaign. Let’s roll!
