Lorde and Jake Bugg do their best to save the radio

I believe in radio, even bad radio. Know why? And you’re just going to have to trust me on this…Art, music or otherwise, wasn’t meant to be experienced at your own convenience. No matter how awesome you think you are, you don’t deserve a customized soundtrack acting as wallpaper for your every move.

Okay, okay…I’m not saying that it isn’t great to put on some Stevie Wonder when you’re in a groovy mood now and then, but a certain portion–and I would argue a large portion–of the music you listen to every day should not be under your control. (Aside: “Every day” means “each day” while “Everyday” is an adjective that means commonplace, ordinary or normal.)

Because you (and I) are boring! You need a little adventure in your life and by definition an adventure happens when you experience something new and unexpected.

So, I was driving in the car today while listening to WTTS 92.3 when I heard the new song from Lorde set to be in the new Hunger Games soundtrack. Here it is followed by the ridiculously young, Jake Bugg–doing their best to save the radio. Good artists may be few and far between on the radio…but it does happen…it’s always magic to have something unexpected explode in your ears!
