Andy Kaufman was waiting for today

It has become a cliché. “Andy Kaufman was ahead of his time.” That’s what you find on about every third comment on Youtube. I’m not so sure that is true–as I’m a pessimist about the so-called advancement of society in the last 50 years. Regardless, this compilation of Kaufman’s first performance on HBO from 1977 is a great way to see his performance art in action. Hold on–you are going to need to flow through at least 8 minutes of this in order to get the pay off! Imagine pulling this off on a major TV show and controlling a hostile crowd. And he is in control. Every inflection and body movement is at his command in order to bring you into his world–and what a strange and wonderful world!
