Music listening for dummies
It’s summertime–well almost–so it’s time to listen to some great music, but there’s a problem. You have terrible taste in music, admit it–especially when left to your own devices. And seeing that you only have limited access to that Brazilian friend of yours, it’s a good thing this little blog is here to help you out.
Believe it or not, radio is still the answer. What is it, 3015 or something? So you can listen online. Dust off the ol’ boom-box (preferably a newer one with an auxiliary cord) and try out these odd community/volunteer and college radio stations. Now, take a breath and relax because things are about to get really weird, but take solace; you’ll be joining the countless millions before you who didn’t control every musical moment they ever experienced. It’s an organic and uncontrolled experience. Dive in:
WITT – 91.9 FM Zionsville, IN. Eclectic and weird in a good folky way. You will hear the strangest transitions!

WIUX – 99.1 FM Bloomington, IN. Student run – annoying in all of the right ways and often awesome. For example, I just checked in and they are playing that song from the movie “Drive,” by Kavinsky. Let me put my leather gloves on…

WFHB – 98.1 FM Bloomington, IN. Community radio. Saturday mornings are particularly great.

KEXP – 90.3 FM Seattle, WA. Super famous for innovation and live stuff.

Almost endless choices…

You’ll also find some new albums streaming over in our arts/culture section, but trust me on the radio thing–stop controlling everything you hear. Listen, I don’t even trust you with picking the genre and you shouldn’t either. In other words, Pandora isn’t helpful here.
