Shame on you if you aren’t watching for meteors tonight!
Tonight you have a chance to gain back some of your humanity. Let’s call it your child-of-God-ishness. It could be one of the best meteor showers in years. Don’t you dare wait for some lifeless photos on Facebook or, worse, SnapChat, get your ass outside around midnight depending where you live. Some details from USA Today:
Skywatchers can catch the Perseid meteor shower in one of its brightest displays in years thanks to a coinciding new moon.
“The Perseids feature fast and bright meteors that frequently leave trains, and in 2015 there will be no moonlight to upstage the shower,” NASA said.
A dark space is all you need to see the show at its peak in the late-night Wednesday into pre-dawn hours of Thursday. It falls in the Perseus constellation in the northeastern part of the sky.
Couple tips: Take a short nap now to give you some energy–if that works for you. Think of a place you know outside of town and away from lights. A meadow or field or down by a lake (you might want some bug spray). Take a blanket or sleeping bag, adult beverages, designated driver…you can do this. Newbies: Be patient and shut your mouth–as much as possible. Pick a patch of sky towards the NE and just wait…Be prepared to be there for an hour+.
