It’s illegal to warm up your car in Jackson!

A $100 fine is what you risk in Mississippi if you start your car early to warm it up. A friend from the state, Jonathan Brown, summed up his thoughts like this, “Oh, don’t worry it’s all legal and designed to keep you from being the victim of theft. Now just let that sink in for a minute.”

I’ve gotta thank Jonathan again for pointing out how the police officer robotically quoted the code like a verse out of a cult manual. Gotta love it! After all, what else are police going to do in a high crime area other than patrol apartment parking lots for rogue idlers?

One more thought. Notice how busy-body laws like this almost always harm the poor.
