Homeland Security using 1,000 more Rounds than Army?
Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz said Thursday, during a congressional hearing, that the Department of Homeland Security is using 1,000 rounds of ammunition more per person than the U.S. Army.
It is entirely … inexplicable why the Department of Homeland Security needs so much ammunition.
This marks the first time that these questions–usually relegated to Drudge, Alex Jones and other ‘conspiracy websites’, have been aired in an official hearing.
Nick Nayak, chief procurement officer for the Department of Homeland Security, did not dispute Chaffetz’s numbers, although he did later claim the number is closer to 750 million.
Rep. John Tierney (D-MA), was indignant: “Unsubstantiated false conspiracy theories have no place in this committee room — hopefully. Federal ammunition purchases are a fraction of the total ammunition market and they’ve been decreasing in recent years. Even the National Rifle Association distances itself from these conspiracy theories.”
