Final Statement of Baton Rouge Gunman Gavin E. Long
Just nineteen days ago, Gavin E. Long posted a video on his Youtube channel entitled, “I am NOT affiliated with Anyone!” Now that video takes on an even more ominous and deliberate meaning after Gavin reportedly shot and killed three Baton Rouge police officers and wounded three more. In the following video, he states,
Don’t affiliate me with nothin’…They try to put you in ISIS or some other terrorist group or anything, no. I’m affiliated with the spirit of justice….Got no affiliations. I thought my own thoughts. I made my own decisions. I’m the one who gotta listen to the judgement…that’s it…and my heart is pure.
Despite his claims, Gavin does talk about Nation of Islam principles and did recently travel to Africa while taking a temporary(?) vow of celibacy.
Before I delve into the media narrative, I want to say that my heart and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones in this crime/tragedy this morning.
The media doesn’t know what to do with Gavin. MSNBC has reportedly pegged him as part of the “sovereign citizen’ movement causing confusion among their liberal following, like this comment on DailyKos:
The MSNBC claim is unbelievable. Why would this man be a part of the “sovereign citizens” movement if that movement is racist? (according to the Southern Poverty Law Center)
Gavin appears to have an odd mix of Black Lives Matter/social justice and some anti-government (even anti-tax) viewpoints based on a quick look of the playlists on his Youtube channel. Here’s a playlist of videos from his channel starting with, “When do you shoot a cop?”
This story is still developing so don’t blindly believe anything you are reading at this point…
