That Illusive Original Christmas Album
What is your favorite Christmas album? Was it something you grew up hearing from your parents, like the classic Elvis Christmas recordings?
Below I’ve included what I hope are some new sounds for you this Christmas season, including the new multi disc Christmas album from Sufjan Stevens. The second album–Good Shepherd Band–in full disclosure, is from my own band. I composed the setting of William Blake’s poem, Little Lamb and the arrangement of Joy to the World. *Check back from time to time and I’ll continue to add free music you can stream to this post.
Despite the hipster/emo vibe, you can’t deny the the creativity of Sufjan Stevens’ Christmas music–with a few originals sprinkled in! I can never get enough of the line, “Your sister’s bangs, she cut them herself,” from the song, Come on! Let’s Boogie to the Elf Dance! (track 18).
Definitely something for the folk enthusiast. It might not be for everyone, but a few of the tracks will provide a welcome relief from the overproduced world of modern Christmas music…
Of course, everyone’s favorite, Vince Guaraldi Trio “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
