Will Rand or Ron Paul Speak at the RNC?
UPDATE: 8/7/2012 Rand to speak at Convention.
(Washington Post 8/6/2012) “The list, which includes five current and former governors, a U.S. senator, and a former secretary of state does not include either Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) or his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). The list will be built out in the coming weeks, but it’s still worth exploring where the Pauls – two figures with intense national followings – fit in at Mitt Romney’s nominating convention. They can’t be ignored entirely, but featuring them too prominently is also a risky proposition for the GOP…”

Today, the RNC chairman released the following statement with this qualifier, “Additional convention speakers, including the keynote, will be announced in the coming days and weeks.” Ron Paul is holding his own rally in Tampa, FL on August 26th.
So far, the RNC has announced:
- South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, the first female governor of South Carolina and the youngest sitting governor in the United States;
- Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, the 44th governor of Arkansas and 2008 presidential candidate is a NY Times best-selling author, radio and television show host;
- Ohio Governor John Kasich, former House Budget Committee chairman;
- New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez, the first female Hispanic governor in the U.S. and the first female governor of New Mexico;
- Arizona Senator John McCain, the party’s 2008 nominee, now serving his fifth term in the U.S. Senate;
- Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, America’s 66th secretary of state and the first African-American female to hold the position; and
- Florida Governor Rick Scott, from the convention host state.
