Thoughts on the Final Presidential Debate

In short, the debate was a joke. Both candidates support the status quo in foreign policy, so there really isn’t much to talk about. What struck me was the caviler way in which we commit to future acts of war with nary a mention of principles of morality…or law.

Mitt Romney stated, “If Israel is attacked, we have their back,” and Obama echoed the statement. Do either of these men have a clue about the principles that guided the founders of our country?

The power to declare war, including the power of judging the causes of war, is fully and exclusively vested in the legislature . . . the executive has no right, in any case, to decide the question, whether there is or is not cause for declaring war.

Both President Obama and Mr. Romney “have Israel’s back,” but how long has it been since we’ve had a president with the constitution’s back?
