Armed Teachers in Indiana? It’s Possible…

Should teachers carry guns? That is the question that many are now asking after the tragic Sandy Hook shooting. As some state legislators begin to talk about introducing bills permitting educators to carry, many in Indiana are shocked to learn that the state actually already allows it. According to Indiana code, firearm restrictions at schools are void if the persons in question are authorized by the school.

 to act as a security guard, perform or participate in a school function, or participate in any other activity authorized by a school.  IC 35-47-9-1

The decision on whether guns can be carried would be made by the local school officials, and is already completely permissible under the current law.
