Poll: Manti Te’o Admits he Lied about Hoax…

The story about Notre Dame Fighting Irish linebacker Manti Te’o’s fake girlfriend continues. In an interview with Katie Couric, Te’o says that he briefly lied to the media after the hoax was revealed to him in early December. When pressed over why he continued to mention his “girlfriend” after he knew that he was duped, he replied;

…my whole world told me that she died on Sept. 12. Everybody knew that. This girl, who I committed myself to, died on Sept. 12,” Te’o said.

Te’o said he received a phone call Dec. 6 from a woman claiming she was Kekua, even though Kekua had allegedly passed away three months earlier.

“Now I get a phone call on Dec. 6, saying that she’s alive and then I’m going be put on national TV two days later. And to ask me about the same question. You know, what would you do? – ABC/Yahoo Article

Manti never met his “girlfriend” face to face, and communicated with the person who he thought was her via phone and the internet. It is believed that a man by the name of Ronaiah Tuiasosopo was the mastermind of the hoax. There is still heated debate over whether Te’o was in on it, or if he was an innocent victim.

What do you think, did Te’o know? Comment below.
